Icicle Tricycles – Dry Ice Cooled Ice Cream Carts

Dry ice is known for keeping things cold.  There are tons of different reasons to use dry ice to keep things cold… here are a few.  Long camping trips, medication transportation, flower delivery, and ice cream delivery.  In this article I want to talk about how the retro looking ice cream trike, Icicle Tricycles, that are harnessing the cooling power of dry ice to bring ice cream to the masses.

Icicle Tricycles

Icicle Tricycles are retro style tricycles that have large ice cream coolers in the front of the bike.  Owners of an Icicle Tricycle would take the tricycle out around town and to events and sell ice cream.

How Does The Ice Cream Stay Cold

The Icicle Tricycles come equipped with large plywood box with insulated polyiso foam.  The rugged frame allows the boxes to be customizable to many different cooling sources.  Portland Pedals found that the most economical method for keeping the ice cream cold is a combination of gel packs and dry ice.  Using dry ice alone in with the Icicle Tricycle, it would take 6 – 9 pounds of dry ice to keep around 200 ice creams frozen for the day.
